Tech4Impact: Call for project submissions until July 7th

Switzerland Innovation announces the Tech4Impact initiative for the third time. Funded projects receive a subsidy of up to CHF 85,000.

The aim of the “Switzerland Innovation Tech4Impact” initiative is to promote the development of groundbreaking innovation projects that deal with the solution of urgent ecological, economic and social challenges.

What is it about?

As part of the initiative, six selected projects are awarded one-year project funding of up to CHF 85,000. Innovation projects are supported that focus on topics of the UN Agenda 2030 for sustainable development and aim at one of the following SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals):

  • SDG 3: Health and well-being
  • SDG 7: Affordable and clean energy
  • SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
  • SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities
  • SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production
  • SDG 13: climate policy

Who can apply?

The program is exclusively open to:

  • Research groups from Swiss universities
  • Postdocs and doctoral students (no master’s or bachelor’s students)
  • scientific staff from universities of applied sciences or research institutes
  • Spin-offs and early-stage start-ups associated with a research group at a university, college or research institute
  • SMEs with an innovation project carried out in collaboration with a research partner

What are the project requirements?

To be eligible for a grant, the proposed project must:

  • deal with a technological innovation
  • Address an urgent social, economic and/or environmental issue in at least one of the six predefined Sustainable Development Goals
  • Reach at least TRL 4 (experimental setup) and not exceed TRL 7 (prototype) for the Technology Readyness Levels (TRL).
  • prove a cooperation with one of the innovation parks of Switzerland Innovation

Who is behind the initiative?

The initiative is led by Switzerland Innovation and supported by innovation partners such as ABB, Credit Suisse, Die Mobiliar, Economiesuisse, Interpharma, Schindler, Swiss Re Foundation, Swisscom, UBS and Zurich. The program is also supported by the Enterprise for Society Center (E4S) – a joint initiative of UNIL, IMD and EPFL.
