Sensor Innovation Hub: New high-tech initiative to strengthen innovation in Eastern Switzerland
On Thursday, September 5, the development managers and managing directors of over 20 Swiss high-tech companies were able to find out about the latest developments and initiatives in the high-tech industry at the “Rheintal Technology Roundtable 2024”. In his welcoming speech, Knut Siercks, Head of the Department of Technology and Site Manager of the Buchs Campus of the OST, emphasized the importance of manufacturing expertise for Eastern Switzerland as an industrial location.
The planned Swiss FabLab project at the Dübendorf site, which Adrian Spierings from Swissmem presented, is entirely in line with this. The “Sensor Innovation Hub” presented by Tobias Lamprecht from OST is a step more concrete: at the Hightech Campus Buchs, the existing skills and facilities of OST and Rhysearch are to be expanded into a modern center for sensor development and made accessible to Swiss industry with the support of Switzerland Innovationpark Ost.
Two impressive statements from industry representatives demonstrated the positive benefits of close cooperation with research for SMEs. During a workshop, the direction and future use of this initiative was discussed intensively and the positive impact for the region was confirmed. The Canton of St. Gallen and the Principality of Liechtenstein plan to support this initiative financially.
