The work to add a storey to the east wing is in full swing and is expected to continue until autumn 2023 – after which the interior work will follow. The area gained offers space to further promote the innovation landscape in Eastern Switzerland.
From 2024, the OST – Ostschweizer Fachhochschule will move to the two floors of the newly added east wing. Until then there is still a lot to do. The construction work ranges from the demolition of the stairwell and the removal of the roof to the construction of the wooden elements and the assembly of the facade. This work should be completed by the end of October, followed by the interior fit-out of the new areas.
Building during ongoing operations – a challenge
From the point of view of Innovationspark Ost, the construction project offers future added value. Because the enlargement of the campus not only means more space, but also the expansion of the network and thus an increase in attractiveness. At the same time, the project poses a challenge for both the tenants and the Innovationspark Ost, in its role as tenant and landlord. In the course of the construction work, increased noise pollution and a shift in the guest parking spaces must be expected. We are pleased that we keep finding suitable interim solutions for the period of construction noise and will thus master these challenging times well.
Further construction projects planned
The area of the Innovationspark Ost will continue to be gradually developed even after the completion of the construction work on the east wing. An extension on the roof terrace (building permit available) and probably also an extension on the northern part of the area (preliminary project available) are planned for the future. This will double the rental space available today. Other start-ups, SMEs and international companies that can profitably integrate into the industrial landscape of Eastern Switzerland can settle there. All in all, there are long-term expansion plans of 20,000 – 25,000 m 2 over several stages.
