The Sensor Innovation Hub was launched in Buchs on June 9, 2026. The new center of excellence for photonics and sensor technology is a joint initiative of OST – University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland, RhySearch, and Supported by Switzerland Innovation Park East.
At the launch event, approximately 150 participants from the fields of research, business, and politics discussed the role of photonics and sensor technology as key areas of innovation for the future. The event featured expert presentations, laboratory tours, and a welcome address from the Canton of St. Gallen.
Prof. Dr. Jürg Leuthold of ETH Zurich highlighted technological prospects in sensor development. Prof. Dr. Kirsten Moselund from the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) discussed the use of semiconductor photonics for neuromorphic computing and artificial intelligence. RICB Diagnostics presented “aimee,” an application for mobile diagnostics.
Michael Auer, President of the University Council of the University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland (OST), and Hubert Büchel, Member of the Liechtenstein Government, spoke about the importance of cross-institutional cooperation for small economic regions.
